Transparency

Doing business in a clear, open way is a commitment we work hard to keep, and we promote transparency where possible throughout our industry.

Shell believes greater transparency about the payments we make to governments is an important way to increase trust. We pay taxes and royalties to governments around the world. We are reporting our payments to governments under a variety of rules and regulations, such as the EU Accounting Directive.

This is also a key reason why we are a founding member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which launched in 2002. Trinidad and Tobago joined the EITI in 2011The EITI works to increase the transparency of revenues governments receive from oil and mineral activities.

We continue to work on this issue and support a mandatory global reporting rule for extractive industries. We are working with a range of stakeholders to find a practical way of achieving this.
