Internal Energy Management
Reducing our carbon footprint is important to us, and Shell Trinidad and Tobago has been taking steps to ensure that our offices are as sustainable as possible. We do this through energy and waste management initiatives.
Some of our initiatives include:
- LED lights installed throughout Shell Energy House which saw a 15% carbon reduction – around 90 tco2e per year
- Silent hours – Between the hours of 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM, 90% of lights are switched off and the AC is ramped down
- The HVAC system was changed to a CRAC system – a more efficient AC – for our data center
- A water collection initiative. The condensation from AC units is used to irrigate the lawn and plants surrounding the office with 10,000 gallons collected per month
- Recycling – we removed single-use plastics (water bottles/coffee cups) from our kitchens and meeting rooms
- Waste segregation in Shell Energy House, including electronics and batteries

On November 9th, 2020, we also commissioned a 3.3 kW Off-Grid Solar PV Project at the Central Block Facility. The HSSE, Environmental, Engineering and Central Block Site teams worked closely together throughout each project stage, and we were proud to meet our goal of 2020 execution.
This was the first deployment of a renewable energy system within the asset, and we hope to launch more exciting ones in the near future.
